Manolis Stratakis, PhD

Manolis Stratakis is professor of Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, University of Crete. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1991 from the University of Crete with prof. M. Orfanopoulos.

Personal experience

Then he was postdoctoral fellow at the Univ. of California at Berkeley with prof. A. Streitwieser (1991-93), and Univ. of California at Los Angeles with prof. C. S. Foote (1995). Between 1995 and 1997 he served as a visiting professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Crete. He started his academic carrier as an assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cyprus (1997-1999). In 1999 he moved to the Department of Chemistry, University of Crete as an assistant professor and in 2009 he was promoted to full professor. Prof. Stratakis is author or co-author of 110 original articles and in a series of chapters in books. His research interests focus on novel applications of supported metal nanoparticles as heterogeneous catalysts in organic transformations, and in biomimetic natural product synthesis.
